Business Installation
What To Expect
We’re excited to bring to you the area’s ONLY 100% fiber optic network! We want you to have the best experience possible. To start, schedule a personal consultation today with one of our experienced business consultants to determine the services that are the right fit for your business. Our consultants customize each order to meet the individual needs of your company.

The next step is installation. Here’s what you can expect:

Initial Steps
During your first call to RST to place your order, we will determine whether a pre-installation survey will be necessary. Often, a survey is not needed for a small business, and we can begin the installation process.

For medium to enterprise level customers, surveys are important to allow for seamless installation. If a survey is necessary, we will schedule a time for one of our representatives to come to your location at your convenience.

Installation Process

Our business installation process includes two visits to your location:

  • Preparation Phase – Preparing your business for RST Fiber Optics
    As all of our outside fiber optic cables are underground (which is one of the reasons the RST network is so reliable), we need to schedule “a locate”, so existing utilities can mark the location of their service(s) going to your business. No one needs to be present for this to be accomplished. The locate process takes a minimum of two full working days to be completed. We will then schedule one of our underground construction teams to be onsite the day after the locate is completed. Our fiber optic cable will be placed underground at the outside entry point of your business, usually the place where other utilities may already be located. Typically for small businesses, we will then mount an Optical Network Terminal (ONT) box on the outside of your business, usually near the power meter. With mid-sized to enterprise level businesses, installation of other equipment may be required. This will be determined during the pre-installation visit.
  • Final Installation – Inside your business
    Once the fiber cable is placed outside of your business, we will schedule the final installation team. This team will need interior access to your business. The team activates all services, connects them to your existing equipment, e.g., a router for internet or phone system for telephone service.

    If you are moving or “porting over” your existing phone numbers, RST will coordinate the transition with your current provider to occur on the day of final installation. During the two to four hour installation, we will consult with you on your specific needs based on your order and complete necessary wiring and testing for quality assurance. As part of our installation, we will make sure that your existing jacks and wiring will deliver the best possible quality from your RST Internet, Phone and HD Video by replacing wiring in your existing connections where necessary. If your businesses wiring is already adequate for delivering the highest quality RST Fiber Optics services, we will not make any modifications. When the installation is complete, all work areas will be cleaned and returned to their original state. Our RST Fiber technicians will answer your questions to make sure you are comfortable with how our services are accessed. You will receive a statement of work performed and/or costs incurred if additional wiring was requested and contact information for help and support.

 

Residential Installation
What To Expect
We’re excited to bring to you the area’s ONLY 100% fiber optic network! We want you to have the best experience possible with our services, and that starts with scheduling an installation. Here’s what you can expect:
Your Appointment
During your first call to RST to place your order, you will be given the next available installation date. Our goal is to find a convenient time for you and get your services set up as soon as possible. As all of our cables outside of your home are placed underground, we need to call in what is referred to as “a locate” so existing utilities can mark the location of their service(s). This takes a minimum of two working days.

Installation Process

Our installation process includes two steps:

  • Step 1 – Outside your home
    There’s no need for you to be at home for this initial part of the installation as long as we have access to the exterior of your house. We will mount an Optical Network Terminal (ONT) box on the side of your home near your existing electric meter.

    Do you have pets or a fence? If so, let us know.
    We may need access to a part of your home that is fenced or houses a family pet. If so, please let us know so we can discuss the best time to do the installation and ensure our safety and the safety of your pet.

  • Step 2 – Inside your home
    You will need to be home for the second visit from our RST Fiber technicians. We will arrange a convenient time to meet you at your house. During the two to three hour installation, we will consult with you on your specific needs based on your order and complete necessary wiring and testing for quality assurance. Most homes are equipped with jacks and connections for subscription television, Internet and phone services. In many cases, RST Fiber services will use these jacks and connections already in your home. As part of our courtesy installation, we will make sure that your existing jacks and wiring will deliver the best possible quality from your RST Internet, HD Video and Phone by replacing wiring in your existing connections where necessary. If your home’s wiring is already adequate for delivering the best quality RST Fiber services, we will not make any modifications to it.

    In addition RST Fiber provides at no extra cost a wireless access point for use within your home. This will provide wireless internet access to your smartphone(s), laptops, etc.

    When the installation is complete, all work areas will be cleaned and returned to their original state. Our RST Fiber technicians will answer your questions to make sure you are comfortable with how your system works. You will receive a statement of work performed and/or costs incurred if additional wiring was requested and contact information for help and support. You will also receive a welcome kit that includes a helpful Quick Start Guide that shows how to use popular features.

Things to Keep in Mind
Set aside at least three hours for the installation inside your home.

An adult (18 years or older) must be present at the time of the installation. This person needs to have knowledge of the equipment you would like connected (computers, TV, etc.) and where it is located. They must also be prepared to provide access to areas where existing cables are located, such as the basement, cellar, or exterior of the home.

If you have an older computer, your RST Internet experience may vary slightly from what a newer model offers. The same is true with television equipment and your RST HD Video experience.
